Mark Fletcher - B.A. Econ., LL.B.

Mark is an experienced lawyer specializing in corporate, commercial, and real estate law, with a background in mechanics and a passion for innovation, including inventing a patented product. Based in southeast Calgary, he runs Fletcher Law Barristers & Solicitors, offering expert legal services and guidance in various fields, including business transactions and residential real estate.

Growing up on a farm near Lacombe, Mark developed a keen interest in mechanics, often dismantling and reassembling cars and motorcycles to grasp their workings. This early curiosity led him to earn an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Alberta, followed by a law degree from Dalhousie University in 1988.

After law school, Mark returned to Alberta to begin his legal career with a diverse role at a small law firm in south Calgary, handling cases ranging from criminal and civil litigation to securities law. Once admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1989, Mark transitioned to corporate roles, initially at Amoco Canada, then as a consultant at Home Oil, and later providing securities law expertise for local businesses going public.

Mark briefly stepped away from law to launch a high-tech startup, where he invented and patented a product, but soon returned to focus on securities law, working with both medium-sized and national law firms. In July 2011, he took over the corporate, commercial, and banking law practice at McConnell MacInnes, Barristers & Solicitors, as he prepared for the retirement of his predecessor, Larry Revitt.

Responding to his growing practice, Mark founded Fletcher Law Barristers & Solicitors in southeast Calgary, offering guidance in real estate, commercial, and corporate law.

Mark's passion for mechanics continues; he has built both a house in Bragg Creek and an amphibious flying boat named Seawind. Beyond his technical skills, Mark also excels in the kitchen, particularly known for his exceptional apple pie. Married to Ellen for nearly 25 years, they share a 16-year-old son.

His legal expertise spans:

  • Corporate/Commercial Law: Incorporations, business transactions, debt and equity financings, shareholder agreements.
  • Residential Real Estate: Sales, purchases, and mortgages.
  • Wills & Estates.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Laws, and has been a member of the Law Society of Alberta since 1989.
